Engraved Basketballs
Engraved basketballs belong to a long-standing tradition. The first game of basketball was played in 1891, in Springfield, Massachusetts, and it has been a part of the Olympic Games since 1936. A basketball team typically has twelve to fifteen players with five of the players being active at a time and the rest on the bench. Points are scored by members of a team throwing or ‘dunking’ the ball through a hoop which is elevated three meters high at either end of the court. The ball is moved around the court by players bouncing it while running (this is called ‘dribbling’) and players are not permitted to hold the ball while taking steps (only when shooting or passing). The rules of the sport are rigidly engraved. Basketballs are big and cumbersome and there are restrictions in the game on how they can be handled. Disruptive physical contact and misuse of the basketball is considered a foul which results in penalties being awarded, much the same as other sports such as football. Basketball has typically always been an indoor sport, although there are variations that are played outdoors and this is not uncommon. The game originated as an indoor sport because its creator, the Canadian Dr. James Naismith, wished to develop a sport which his students could engage in to keep fit during the long winters in Massachusetts. Engraved basketballs can be personalized in whichever way suits the buyer. Whether you wish to engrave your champ’s first basketball with his initials or write a personal little message, it can become a highly personalized and individual practical birthday or congratulatory ‘card’ of sorts. Because basketball keeps you fit, it is good to encourage a basketball lover to pursue this hobby by showing interest in his or her love for the game. This can spur an already keen sporting person into even greater involvement and dedication, nurturing his or her personal goals. Whether the person who you purchase a personalized sporting implement for is an absolute fanatic or simply enjoys playing the sport with friends, personalized sporting equipment such as engraved basketballs and engraved hockey sticks make fantastic gifts. It is a truly thoughtful gesture to give someone a gift which is suited to his or her interests, and it will show that you play close attention to the person and what he or she finds pleasure in. This thoughtfulness itself, in addition to the material appeal of the gift, is certain to please the receiver and be cherished greatly.
